Pregnancy – FAQ During Pregnancy
Article by Michaeline Miller
If only you could see inside your tummy to check in on your baby! Wouldn’t that be reassuring? Whether this is your first or fourth pregnancy, each one comes with its own set of questions. The below Pregnancy FAQ are typical for a first time parent. Trusting your instincts is key, but if you have any question whatsoever about your health or the baby’s health – please contact your doctor immediately.
1. Is the baby ok? This question will be on your mind from the minute you find out your pregnant to the minute the baby is born. This can be a stressful time especially in the first trimester when you don’t feel the baby move yet and bleeding is normal. Call your doctor if you have any concerns – it is always better to be safe than sorry.
2. Should I continue to work? Many families have the luxury of living off one parent income. Look at your monthly responsibilities and include child care…does it make sense to go back to work? Do you want to go back to work? Can you tighten your belt, say for example, turn off your cable? Go through as many scenarios as you can and see what works best for your financial situation.
3. Pink or Blue? If you want to know the sex of the baby, most ultrasounds can tell by 18-20 weeks of pregnancy. Be aware that the ultrasound is not 100% correct in every situation.
4. Is it safe to “Get in the mood”?As long as you are not a high-risk pregnancy and your doctor has ok’d everything, you should be able to continue to have sex with your partner.
5. Blonde or Brunette?Evidence is conflicting when it comes to the use of hair dye. Talk with your doctor and see what their stand on this issue is. Some physicians advise you to wait until after the first trimester while others don’t see an issue with it at all. Talk with your doctor.
6. Extra Grande Latte? Some studies have indicated that heavy use of caffeine increases your risk of miscarriage. Most experts recommend no more than 1-2 servings of caffeine a day (coffee, soda, tea). It is safe to switch to decaffeinated.
7. Shake it up and work it out?Absolutely. It is safe, and good for you, to participate in moderate exercise while pregnant. Remember to take it easy and rest should you feel dizzy, short of breath or can no longer speak easily. Check with your doctor on good exercise options.
8. Jetsetter? Most airlines will allow a woman to travel until the 36th week. Remember to get up and move around frequently to keep your circulation flowing. If you must travel in your last month, please check with your doctor and have your medical records with you.
Everyone worries about being a good parent…use common sense, educate yourself, give your love and patience and you will be a fine parent!
